Not all fasting is the same, and not every fasting hotel is either. Some houses have a whole medical team, others offer juice cures between sauna and bar. Here we present the houses we would recommend for a fasting cure, and tell you what matters when choosing.

At a glance
  • A good fasting hotel has medical supervision, a kitchen that takes fasting seriously, and calm.
  • The houses differ mainly in the kind of fasting: Mayr, Buchinger, Schroth or alkaline fasting.
  • You can see current room prices for every house on Luxly live.

How to recognise a good fasting hotel

What matters is not the most beautiful spa, but the support. Fasting should begin with a medical consultation, often with blood values. During the cure you need a kitchen that knows exactly what it is doing, and people who notice when you are not feeling well.

  • A medical consultation beforehand and care during the cure
  • Several kinds of fasting to choose from
  • Support when breaking the fast and during the build-up days
  • Movement, treatments and rest as part of the programme

Our selection in Germany and Austria

In Germany the choice ranges from a medical resort on Lake Constance to a classic spa town in the Allgäu. Austria stands above all for the Mayr cure, which originated there. We have looked closely at the following houses and portrayed them.

Fasting is the same everywhere. Being well looked after is not.

Our selection in Switzerland and traditional spa towns

In Switzerland fasting is often more down to earth and warmer than you might think. And if you would rather fast in a traditional spa town, Germany has houses with healing water, mud and large parks.

Which kind of fasting suits you

If you are unsure which kind of fasting you want, first read our comparison of the Mayr cure and therapeutic fasting. As a rule of thumb: if you are fasting for the first time, start with a gentle form such as Mayr or alkaline fasting.

What a fasting week costs

A week with medical supervision at a good house usually costs between around €3,000 and €6,000 per person, depending on room and programme. More in the guide “What a cure really costs”.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I stay at a fasting hotel?

Most houses recommend at least a week. For a Mayr cure or therapeutic fasting with build-up days, ten to fourteen days are ideal.

Can my partner come without fasting?

In most houses, yes. They eat normally and enjoy the hotel and spa while you fast.

How does Luxly select the houses?

By medical supervision, transparent programmes and honest statements about who a house suits and who it does not. There are no paid placements.

Luxly does not provide medical advice. Whether a programme suits you is something to discuss with the house's medical team or your own doctor.

Still unsure which house suits you?

Tell the Luxly concierge what you are looking for. It answers honestly, even if that means: no house fits.
